Here at The Good Kennel Guide we love treating our furry friends to homemade dog treats. Not only are these recipes fun, quick and easy to make but they are free from preservatives and you know exactly what is in them. Another benefit of making your own tasty dog treats is being able to control the portion size, if you like to give your pooch a few treats over the day then make them smaller, they can also be adapted to suit your dog’s taste and allergies.

Gingerbread Treats

Ingredients

• 170g self-raising flour

• 85g peanut butter (make sure that the peanut butter you use does not contain Xylitol, an added sweetener which can be toxic to dogs). 

• 4 tbsp. hot water

• 2 tsp. ginger

• 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Method

• Preheat the oven to 200oc

• In a bowl, mix together the peanut butter and hot water until combined.

• Add the self-raising flour, cinnamon, ginger and a splash of cold water, mix well until a dough is formed.

• Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface kneading until smooth. Roll out to approx. 1cm in thickness and cut into shapes using biscuit cutters (bone shaped ones are ideal). Place onto a greased baking tray.

• Bake for 15 minutes or until brown and cool on a wire rack.

• Once cold store in an airtight container.
