How does The Good Kennel Guide work?

The Good Kennel Guide takes the stress out of dog boarding by only listing licensed kennels and boarders who meet the standards set out by law. All kennels that hold a valid licence have a free listing on the website which kennel owners and boarders can “claim” by creating a free account, this allows them to personalise their listing and interact with dog owners. Licensed home boarders are only listed on The Good Kennel Guide at their own request.

Is The Good Kennel Guide free?

Dog owners are charged a very small percentage of each booking which covers administration costs of The Good Kennel Guide and helps us to make kennels and home boarders as visible as possible to their potential customers. Kennel owners and home boarders do not pay any fee for their listing or to take bookings through The Good Kennel Guide. The Good Kennel Guide does not charge any subscription fees to dog owners, kennel owners or home boarders.

How do I search for a kennel or home boarder in my area?

Go to The Good Kennel Guide home page and enter your postcode, county or town into the “Search for kennels in my area” box. This will generate a list of kennels in your area and reviews from their existing customers to help you to decide if they are the right kennel for you and your dog.

Can I use The Good Kennel Guide to find a dog walker?

The Good Kennel Guide does not currently list dog walkers but some kennels and home boarders may list dog walking in their additional services on their profile. Many kennels, boarders and day care centres do offer this service and you can select this service when you make your booking if it is available.

How much does the service cost?

Costs vary much depending upon the local market and each kennel or boarder is able to specify their own prices. You will see the cost of the services you are requesting when you make a booking so will be aware of costs up front.

What should I take with me when I drop off my dog?

In order to help your dog settle in as quickly as possible we recommend taking things that are familiar to your dog. Please note that some kennels and boarders have their own rules around what you can and can’t take. You should expect to find this information on their profile page. Some useful suggestions (should this be allowed) are collar and lead, favourite toys and treats, favourite food and bowl, dog bed and blanket.

My dog has special requirements. Can I still use The Good Kennel Guide?

The Good Kennel Guide caters for all dogs, all shapes, sizes, breeds and temperaments. We encourage dog owners to complete their dog’s profile as much as possible as this is shared with the kennel owner or boarder when the booking is made. This gives the boarder as much information as possible about your dog so they can ensure that your dog has the best possible care. We also encourage Kennel owners and boarders to provide as much information as possible about the services that they provide. This helps you as a dog owner to pick a boarder that meets yours (and your dog’s)  precise requirements.

Do Kennels and boarders have pick up and drop off times?

Some kennels and boarders do have specific drop off and pick up times, they should include this information on their profile.
