Best Dog Friendly Holidays in Norfolk

Back

Norfolk has always been a favourite destination for UK holiday makers as it has something for everyone. North Norfolk is a paradise for pooches as it's known for being one of the most dog-friendly locations in the UK, with parks, beaches and lovely country walks what more could they ask for?

In this article we will share some of our top things to do and dog friendly places to stay.

What beaches can I take my dog to in Norfolk?

Many of the beautiful, sandy beaches are a delight for dogs, and their responsible owners, all year round. Many of the beaches are best at low-tide so check tide times before visiting. Here is our list of the best dog-friendly beaches in north Norfolk. The information given was correct at the time of writing but please check before travelling for seasonal changes and Covid-19 restrictions.

Heacham

The north Beach has a café, fish bar and beach huts for hire. South Beach has its own café/gift shop and both beaches have public toilets. Both North and South Beach face West, looking across a huge bay area. This is shallow, sheltered water - not open sea - making the beaches feel safe and sheltered.

Old Hunstanton

This is dog-friendly all year round with a lovely sandy beach. The backdrop of striped cliffs is truly amazing and the shallow tidal water and rock pools are ideal for dogs that like to take a dip. Public toilets are available.

Holkham

The beach can be accessed via a walk through the pinewoods, and along the boardwalks until you find yourself on a huge expanse of beautiful sand. The pinewoods provide some lovely cool shade in the summer months. As the beach is part of Holkham National Nature Reserve it is home to large flocks of wintering birds and is an important site for breeding Little Terns, Ringed Plover and Oystercatcher. These birds nest on the ground so are vulnerable to high tides and disturbance from people and dogs. Please be vigilant and help these rare birds by keeping dogs on leads when necessary. There is also an extensive dune system which attracts a large numbers of butterflies and wildlife.

Are there any dog friendly parks in Norfolk?

Indeed there are, and some pretty stunning ones at that!

Sheringham National Trust Park

Sheringham Park is a landscaped park with gardens near the town of Sheringham itself. The park surrounds Sheringham Hall which is privately occupied, but Sheringham Park is in the care of the National Trust and open to visitors. Please see their website for opening times and prices. Sheringham Park

Eaton Park

Eaton Park is one of Norwich's most stunning parks of over 80 acres with a vast array of things to do for all ages. It is open 365 days a year and is free of charge. Dogs are welcome, (including in the cafe), but must be kept on leads in areas such as the Pitch 'n' Putt and are not allwed in the childrens play area. Please see their website to view a complete list of activities and to check those that are available during current restrictions. Eaton Park

What other dog friendly activities are available in Norfolk?

The Norfolk Broads are a must do when visiting the region. Along with walking, running, cycling etc there is obviously the boat hire. Take a picnic, load up your dogs and cruise the broads admiring the scenery of the Fens, the local wildlife and mooring up for a walk and picnic whenever the fancy takes you. See website for further details and retrictions. Visit The Broads.
